Valentina on working for Nochlezhka

- What are you by trade and what did you do before you came to Nochlezhka?

- I am a trained librarian. Before coming to Nochlezhka I worked for a large design institute as an engineer in the department of scientific and technical information. I have been working with people all my life.

- How and why did you start working for Nochlezhka?
- I came to Nochlezhka after retiring, when I had a lot of free time. I found out about the organisation by accident and started volunteering at the canteen for the homeless at 10, Pushkinskaya Street, in 1992. 6 months later they offered me a position registering homeless people, and I was officially employed by Nochlezhka on 19 January 1993.

It is very important for me that I work with people and that I can help them, listen to them, perhaps suggest something and share my knowledge and experience with them.

- Why do you keep working for the charity?
- For the time being I can’t imagine myself without Nochlzhka. The most important thing is to love and respect other people. Homeless people are humiliated, one needs to see a human in every single one of them. I am always very polite to people, because I respect all of them. Even when little children came to our library, I still treated them like adults.

- What do you like doing in your free time?
- I really like spending time outdoors, I love my dacha, the woods and animals.
